There are many different types of strawberries that grow well in the Pacific Northwest. Texture: Ripe strawberries are firm to the touch, but not hard. If you cut established runners from mother plants or buy from garden centers you could be producing fruit within three months.

Finding the best strawberries to grow in New Mexico was not as easy as I thought. Day-neutrals and everbearers are often used interchangeably in the industry since the two behave similarly in temperate regions. The strawberries are from Laramie, Wyoming, and can be found in Cheyenne, Wyoming, as well as other parts of the country.

Harvest the fruits; July to August: once fruiting has finished, remove netting and clear straw or mats away.

Ripe strawberries will be sweet, juicy, and flavorful. Planting depth is critical for strawberries. Growers have a better chance at getting a good crop with mid-season cultivars. Here are some popular strawberry varieties and their approximate time to fruiting: Please note that these are general guidelines and the exact time to fruiting can vary based on a number of factors.

Also called day-neutral varieties, as long as the temperature is between 35F or 1C to 85F or 30C.

Quinault: This variety typically produces fruit in 6-7 weeks after blooming. Its important to harvest them when they are fully ripe as strawberries do not continue to ripen once they are picked. This takes four to five months, so the strawberries produce fruit that will be ready to pick in mid-winter. Put a cup of cold water in a blender with a handful of ripe strawberries and blend for three to five seconds. Do not renovate after July 15 because there may not be enough time for new leaf production.



Then gently rub the dry fruit so that the seeds fall off. Strawberry growing is difficult in low-elevation areas of southern New Mexico because of the high daytime temperatures in the summer.
